Career Background
Joining Touche Ross & Co (TR) in 1975, Mike started his career predominantly engaged in the audit of banks. He was admitted to associate membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1978.
Keen to become a Chartered Accountant Mike sought to obtain his Certificate to Practice within the minimum period of two years. Having completed six months further work in the audit department at (TR) he left 1978 to join Casson Beckman, a small firm of Chartered Accountants to obtain the necessary accountancy experience. He then rejoined the tax department of TR in 1979, staying for just one year.
The day he was granted his Certificate, Mike and a couple of colleagues from TR, started to practice as Daeche & Co at offices in Holborn. He was admitted to the Fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1980 and since 1986 has worked in general practice as a partner in Sampson West.
Mike believes his excellent training at TR helped him to learn the professional way of approaching client work.
With a good working knowledge of UK tax, a significant proportion of his work is personal tax advice. This has led him to regular appearances on a personal finance programme on BBC Radio and articles in the Financial Times.
In 1997 he qualified as an Associate of the Society of Financial Advisors and he is also a non-executive director of a number of UK subsidiaries of overseas companies involved in mining and property.
When not working Mike enjoys playing golf and listening to classical music.
